Zoho People: The Family of Apps for HR Efficiency Amol Pawar, July 5, 2024June 25, 2025 A chance encounter with a cab driver from Punjab a few days back got me thinking about the commonalities between the Zoho Environment and how traditional family businesses are run in India. My perspective completely! But I’m sure you will appreciate the essence of it as you read through it. My conversation with the cab driver riveted around farming back home (since he was from Punjab). He spoke about how the labor shortage on farms has recently spiked up with most young men moving to towns and cities for employment. He also mentioned automation, to my surprise, to compensate for the labor shortage. During the season time, he narrated how he would be back home to help his family with farming. And, that also meant that his extended family helped him on the farms. This is what struck me. I couldn’t help but wonder that nepotism is such an over-discussed topic in a particular industry in India (Bollywood), but it does exist everywhere. It is woven into the Indian culture and ethics – I mean in a positive sense here. Look through any section of the society or industrial vertical. From politics to religion, medicine to business, entertainment to sports, you see it everywhere. A little too much in India, I must say. Families have built their names, empires, and legacies in the country, thanks to nepotism. And, it is no secret that most of these family businesses are doing pretty well and have sustained through the years, generation after generation. Minus the negativity, nepotism has been an accepted way of building, preserving, and passing on wealth from one generation to another. I know you may be wondering how this narrative has anything to do with Zoho People or HR Tech. Let me explain. There are noticeable similarities. First, the culture of family businesses in India exemplifies cohesive working. It teaches us that the probability of disputes tends to reduce when you stick within the same family. This is a bold statement but let me extend this thought process to the spectrum of HR Tech. When you choose the core of your HR Ops from a single family of applications, you are working with multiple family members that have a shared history and bonding due to which communication is simplified and easier. Now, let’s take the extreme opposite case. Solutions and applications from different families – how difficult and cumbersome can it get trying to integrate these and have them talk to one another? My experience says this can be a big headache, often disastrous. Therefore, I can say with 100 % confidence that there is a strong case of analogy between family business operations and the HR Tech landscape. To extend this notion further, I would like to talk about Zoho People specifically now (finally, we get to the topic!) With 55+ deeply integrated apps (think of it as family members from different generations with the same bloodline), this platform offers one of the most comprehensive use cases today in the HR Tech space. I have already spoken in-depth about the advantages of Zoho People for mid and enterprise-grade organizations in my previous blog. If you are contemplating using Zoho People, I recommend you go through it ‘Why Zoho People is One of the Best HR Tech Solutions for a Mid or Enterprise-Grade Customer?’ Since the apps are from the same family, the look-and-feel is more or less the same, making things easier for end-users. The intuitive user interface, modular architecture, and the flexibility of starting small and then scaling up – are advantages, especially when your workplace is a mix of tech-savvy and not-so-tech-savvy people. The other thing is that these multiple applications talk to each other seamlessly, making back-end jobs so much simpler. The fungibility of the technology in this case boosts higher ROI (Regulation compliance, Operational efficiency, and Insights from Data). And this, in turn, boosts the traditional ROI (Return on Investment). (I’d suggest a read of my blog on this topic at https://www.nuest.co.in/blog/hr-tech-as-an-infrastructure-the-elusive-roi/ for a better understanding). Overall, what I mean to say is that Zoho People make your life easier! And, I can vouch for it. Need Help with Zoho People?
