Zoho People: The Ideal Choice for MSMEs

Amol Pawar, August 21, 2024October 5, 2024

“81% of Indian MSMEs plan to increase their cloud spending in 2025. However, the high cost of software is a top hurdle.”

This insight is part of Zoho’s ‘State of Digital and Customer Operations in Indian MSMEs’ survey, conducted between April and June 2024. The survey, which gathered input from 5,149 MSMEs across various sectors in India, revealed four main challenges in digital adoption:

  • High software costs
  • Budgetary constraints
  • Lack of tech skills
  • Integration hassles

Other Key Insights From the Survey

  1. Growing Preference for Cloud Solutions

About 77% of respondents have already allocated 50% of their budget this year to cloud solutions. The remaining 23%? They’ve allocated even more—over 50%.

Looking ahead to 2025, nearly 81% of MSMEs surveyed plan to increase their cloud spending. These figures point to a growing tech awareness within India’s MSME sector.

  1. Areas Prioritized by MSME for Tech Use

The top areas for tech adoption identified by the survey include Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Financial Services Solutions, and Cybersecurity and Business Intelligence.

Other notable areas highlighted for future tech use are:

  • Team Collaboration
  • Human Resources
  • Artificial Intelligence

Indian MSMEs seem to clearly recognize the importance of cloud solutions for enhancing operational efficiency. However, the affordability of feature-rich, accessible solutions remains a significant hurdle.

While HR may not have been the sole focus of this survey, there are clear takeaways for the MSME sector and its HR landscape that I want to explore further.

The HR Perspective for MSMEs [& Why Zoho Ecosystem is a Good Fit]

MSMEs naturally prioritize affordability when investing in technology, and the HR space is no exception. These businesses need to optimize their resources and make meaningful allocations. By staying within the Zoho ecosystem, small and medium-sized companies can not only save resources but also take advantage of the flexibility and seamless integration that Zoho offers.

Here’s how:

When you invest in Order-to-Cash tools within the Zoho ecosystem, you can easily add the Zoho People module, leveraging economies of scale. This approach allows MSMEs to streamline operations while maximizing their tech investments.

  • Benefit # 1: Minimal Setup Time

The Zoho Ecosystem is designed for seamless integration, meaning all apps work together effortlessly as part of the overall system.

In simpler terms, you don’t have to configure each module separately or manually integrate it with existing data. The ecosystem’s pre-configured synchronization handles that for you, making the setup process smooth and straightforward.

This reduces the complexity of setting up the system and cuts down the time needed to get everything up and running. As a result, businesses can focus on their core operations instead of spending valuable time and resources on the technical details of HR tech implementation.

  • Benefit # 2: Integrated Analytics

This is where it’s important to emphasize that the Zoho Ecosystem, including Zoho People, functions as a cohesive family of apps. The consistent look and feel across the landscape make things smoother and easier. Why is this important? Because when all the modules—Sales, Marketing, Operations, and People—are integrated into a unified system, you gain access to integrated analytics that provide a holistic view.

This unified approach allows you to analyze all metrics together, uncovering comprehensive patterns and trends that might be missed when data is analyzed in isolation. For example, by correlating employee performance with sales trends, you can gain deeper insights and pinpoint where things might be going wrong or why certain employees are outperforming others.

  • Benefit # 3: Nimble Organizational Changes

This is also derived from the concept of integrated systems. Organizational or process changes can be handled and addressed nimbly. Any changes made in upstream modules can trickle down quickly minus the worries about integration issues.

For example, updates in sales processes or marketing strategies can flow down to related modules in real time. This agility and seamlessness within the organization help keep processes and things up-to-date and aligned, facilitating prompt and effective decision-making and implementation, thus, creating a dynamic business environment, and giving a competitive edge to the business.

  • Low-risk Implementation for Small Enterprises

For small and medium-sized businesses that are yet to adopt automation, a subscription-based implementation of the Zoho ecosystem is a low-risk option. This also allows businesses to get the functional framework up and running in no time, without upfront investments.

The subscription model is flexible. It helps companies scale up based on their needs. And, if the needs are not addressed, they can switch to another platform. All of this without being locked into a long-term commitment. This kind of flexibility is highly beneficial to businesses that always aim to enhance their operations with minimal financial risks.

As an MSME if you have decided to invest in tech solutions, I’d recommend the Zoho ecosystem to you. With its comprehensive range of offerings, it becomes a matter of convenience and cost-effectiveness.  Besides, the Zoho ecosystem helps streamline business processes faster and effectively.
